The 2027 Punta Cana Basketball Classic proudly presents the coaches who are part of our first-ever edition. These leaders represent the foundation of our tournament’s history, bringing experience, passion, and commitment to developing young athletes. Their participation marks the beginning of a tradition that will grow year after year.
The Hall of Coaches for the 2027 Edition honors the leaders, mentors, and program directors who form the foundation of the Punta Cana Basketball Classic. These coaches represent excellence, discipline, and the competitive spirit that defines our inaugural international tournament. Each coach featured here has been selected for their impact on youth development, their commitment to the game, and their dedication to elevating basketball across the United States and the Dominican Republic.
This first edition marks the beginning of a tradition that will grow year after year. The Hall of Coaches serves as the official archive of the tournament, preserving the history, teams, and coaching figures who contribute to the growth and prestige of this event.
This section recognizes their leadership both on and off the court and highlights their essential role in shaping the next generation of athletes.
His coaching background includes leading programs at ASHTON School, Saint Joseph School, Banco del Progreso, and Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, as well as serving as a lecturer for FEDOMBAL and the National Association of Coaches. Carlos has been part of championship‑level staff at Club BAMESO, one of the most respected basketball institutions in the country, and currently serves as the club’s Basketball Coordinator.
He is also the Founder of Carlos Banks Academy, an international basketball development institution with presence in Spain, Ecuador, and Italy, dedicated to forming young talent through elite training methodologies.
Program Leadership
Carlos has led and developed athletes across multiple regions of the Dominican Republic, including Azua, Monte Plata, and Nagua, producing finalists and runner‑up teams in San Cristóbal, Barahona, and Bonao. His academy has become a respected representative of Dominican basketball in international competitions.
As Coordinator of the Sports Management Master’s Program at UNICDA, he plays a key role in shaping the next generation of sports professionals and coaches.

Carlos Banks Carter is a Dominican basketball coach, educator, and international program leader with a distinguished career spanning player development, academic instruction, and high‑performance coaching. Recognized as one of the most influential modern educators in Dominican basketball, he combines technical expertise with a strong academic foundation in sports pedagogy and leadership.
Carlos holds a Master’s Degree in Physical Education, along with specialized diplomas in Sports Psychology (INTEC) and Educational Leadership (BARNA). He also serves as a National Education Technician for MINERD, contributing to the advancement of sports education across the Dominican Republic.

At the EG Basketball Academy, Edwin leads training regimens for development squads and travel teams—including the renowned Club Naco Travel Team #16 Blue—where he has worked with emerging talents in Dominican basketball. His program is characterized by high-performance training sessions, a strong emphasis on fundamentals, and competitive preparation for both national and international tournaments.
As a member of the NBA Basketball School RD staff, Edwin helps implement the NBA’s official methodology for youth development. His involvement in this program places him within an elite group of certified coaches in the region who are committed to upholding global standards of instruction.
Throughout his career, Edwin has collaborated with collegiate and professional-level players—including documented training sessions with athletes such as Chad Baker (San Diego State University)—reflecting his deep connections within the high-level competitive basketball ecosystem.

Edwin Guerrero is a Dominican coach dedicated to the holistic development of young athletes, recognized for his work as Head Coach of the EG Basketball Academy and as a Coach for the NBA Basketball School Dominican Republic—roles he prominently highlights across his official platforms.
With a career built within the country's leading youth development programs, Edwin specializes in the technical, tactical, and physical training of players at the youth and pre-collegiate levels. Moisés Luis Sarmiento, Head Coach, Academia Deportiva Sarmiento
Moisés Luis Sarmiento, born in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, is a community leader, sports trainer, and one of the leading advocates for youth development in the Verón–Punta Cana region.
In 2002, Sarmiento moved to Punta Cana, where he began social and sports-related work that would eventually become a pillar of support for hundreds of families. His vocation for service and his commitment to the youth led him, in 2006, to formally dedicate himself to training young people in basketball and volleyball, thereby creating opportunities for underprivileged children and adolescents.

Born from this vision is the Sarmiento Sports Academy—a project that, over the years, has impacted more than 2,000 children, providing them with athletic training, mentorship, and access to academic scholarships that have transformed lives and opened doors to new educational and athletic opportunities.
Thanks to his leadership, discipline, and commitment to the community, Moisés Sarmiento currently serves as President of the Board of Trustees for the José Justo Pepén Multipurpose Center, located in Verón, Punta Cana, where he continues to champion sports, cultural, and social programs for the benefit of local youth.
His work has established the Sarmiento Sports Academy as a regional benchmark for holistic development, discipline, and personal growth.
