PUNTA CANA BASKETBALL CLASSIC

🔹 1. Game Format

8U – 12U Divisions

• 4 quarters of 8 minutes (running clock)

• Last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter → stopped clock

• Halftime: 3 minutes

• Between quarters: 1 minute

• ​

13U – 14U Divisions

• 4 quarters of 10 minutes (running clock)

• Last 2 minutes of the 4th quarter → stopped clock

• Halftime: 3 minutes

• Between quarters: 1 minute

• ​

Overtime

• First overtime: 2 minutes stopped clock

• Second overtime: sudden death (first point wins)

🔹 2. Timeouts

• 2 timeouts per half

• No carryover

• 1 additional timeout in overtime

🔹 3. Fouls & Free Throws

• 5 personal fouls per player

• Bonus at 5 team fouls per quarter

• Double bonus at 10 team fouls

• Free throws follow AAU/FIBA rules

🔹 4. Defense Rules

8U – 12U

• Man-to-man recommended

• Zone allowed

• No full-court press if leading by 15+ points

• ​

13U – 14U

• Full-court press allowed the entire game

• Zone allowed

🔹 5. Official Game Ball

• 8U – 12U: Size 28.5

• 13U – 14U: Size 29.5

🔹 6. Required Documentation

• Birth certificate

• Identification (youth ID if applicable)

• Mandatory medical insurance

• Official team roster signed by the coach

No documents → player cannot participate.

🔹 7. Uniforms

• Light and dark uniform required

• Visible numbers on front and back

• No player may participate without the official uniform

• If colors clash, home team wears light uniform

​

🔹 8. Punctuality

• Teams must be ready 15 minutes before game time

• 10-minute grace period → automatic forfeit

​

🔹 9. Conduct & Discipline

• Zero tolerance for fights

• Immediate ejection for physical or verbal aggression

• Parents and spectators may be removed

• Head coach is responsible for team and spectators’ behavior

​

🔹 10. Referees

• Certified referees (FEDOMBAL, AAU, FIBA, or recognized leagues)

• Their decision is final

​

🔹 11. Official Protests

• Only the head coach may file a protest

• Must be submitted before the game ends

• Evidence must be provided

• Tournament committee makes the final decision

 

🔹 12. Tiebreaker Rules

1. Best record

2. Head-to-head result

3. Point differential (+/-)

4. Total points scored

5. Coin toss

🔹 13. Player Eligibility

• Players must compete in their correct age division

• No over-age players allowed

• Players competing in two divisions must be registered in both

​

🔹 14. Safety

• All players must have medical insurance

• Tournament is not responsible for injuries

• Hydration must be available at all courts

​

🔹 15. Game Rules (AAU/FIBA Combined)

• Standard violations: traveling, double dribble, 3 seconds, 5 seconds, 8 seconds

• Goaltending follows FIBA rules

• Technical fouls → 2 free throws + possession

• Unsportsmanlike fouls → 2 free throws + possession

• Ejection after 2 technicals or 1 unsportsmanlike + 1 technical
